The Youngest Daughter of The Youngest Daughter
Mindi and Mom 1990's
A VERY SPECIAL BOND
It's an exceptional relationship dynamic, and one that can only be understood between that bond of a Mother and her Daughter.
"Fiercely Independent."
That is precisely how to describe these two remarkable women.
Kathie Abbott Lake was the youngest daughter of Medford Dee Abbott, and Kathryn White Abbott.
Mindi L. Lake was the youngest daughter of Kathie Abbott.
When reading the two sentences above, at first they don't seem out of the ordinary. Babies are born all over the world everyday to loving parents. What makes Kathie and Mindi's situation and story unique, is what is found upon a little closer inspection.

Kathie had certain challenges when she was born as one of her legs wrapped up around her neck putting lots of pressure on that leg. She learned to scoot around on the floor by using that little leg as a propeller to move her. Doing what she did as a baby strengthened the leg and was soon walking as normal as any other toddler. Walking became a natural part of Kathie's life following her dad everywhere, being his shadow at home and his fishing partner at his favorite fishing spots.
Mindi had a slight speech impediment (lisp) interestingly enough when she was young, however with time and patience Kathie helped Mindi overcome it. Like her mother before her attaching to her father Medford, Mindi attached to her older brother Shane, shadowing him on bike rides, walks around the neighborhood, or even staying indoors, and playing with her various toys. One of her favorites when she was younger was the Weebles Haunted playhouse.
After Mindi was born, the maternal bond between mother and daughter would solidify. A bond so strong it would withstand hardships, and obstacles, unbreakable, remaining incorruptible for life. As family separations often do happen, Mindi's family would experience that painful chapter in her formative years. The children lived with their mother, and given the situation everyone did the best they could. As time went on and the circumstances began to stabilize, Mindi's older brother left home enlisting in the United States Air Force, leaving only Mindi and her Mother together.
During that time Mindi was beginning to blossom into a lovely young lady, and had her mother to help guide Mindi throughout the transition. With her eldest son gone, Kathie realized she could now exchange in real one on one conversations with Mindi for support and a listening ear. Although they were Mother and Daughter, Kathie and Mindi also enjoyed the added dynamic of being friends as well. The two of them would talk for hours sometimes about situations they were going through, and would bounce ideas around to help each other.
In other instances as is common they were discovering, and redrawing where life's overall boundaries were, or if old life boundaries were needed at all. It was the 1980's and the old notions of 'women minding the house' were rapidly falling away in American society. This allowed Kathie and Mindi to realize that they were capable, intelligent, independent, women and could reshape their own life's directions with no one and nothing to interfere, or hold them back. Sometimes, as can be the case disagreements could ensue, but were usually trivial, and never really lasted long. All in all they both knew they were going to be fine, because when all was said and done, they would always be there for each other for support.
Whenever either of their independence was challenged anywhere, or anytime, by anyone you would hear from one, or both of them give the offender a very unabashed, and colorfully metaphorical verbal straightening out that the offender would never enjoy. It wasn't uncommon to hear during those moments: "You're full of shit", or "Go piss up a flagpole", or "Oh, Kiss my Ass", always followed by the single finger salute.
